Hampton Injury Law was founded by attorney Jan Hoen. Mr. Hoen handles civil injury cases such as automobile negligence, worker’s compensation and medical malpractice. Personal injury cases require specialized knowledge and experience in handling the unique issues which arise in such cases–issues such as negotiating and resolving the state and federal healthcare liens; insurance reimbursement claims for medical benefits paid by employer-funded health insurance plans; and aggressive litigation tactics employed by insurance defense lawyers. Mr. Hoen has successfully recovered millions in compensation representing his clients in personal injury cases. His trial experience covers the fields of medical malpractice, motor vehicle personal injuries, premises and product liability, dog bites, worker’s compensation, civil disputes and criminal and traffic cases, among others.

Mr. Hoen was born in 1960 in the City of Wageningen in the Netherlands, and lived in Australia, Ireland and North Carolina prior to moving to Salem, Virginia. After graduating from Salem High School, Mr. Hoen served in the United States Army from 1979-1982 at Fort Campbell, Kentucky. Following his military service he accepted a scholarship at Roanoke College, from where he graduated Magna Cum Laude.

Mr. Hoen attended law school at the University of Richmond, graduating in 1989. Following law school, Mr. Hoen served as Law Clerk to Chief Justice Lawrence L. Koontz, Jr. on the Court of Appeals of Virginia.

From 1990 to the present, Mr. Hoen has been engaged in the private practice of law in Virginia. He began private practice in Leesburg and Fairfax, after which he moved to Virginia Beach and has practiced in the Hampton Roads area since that time. Mr. Hoen has tried numerous cases to verdict throughout the Hampton Roads region since 1995. He has also successfully argued and pursued cases on appeal to the Virginia Supreme Court and the United States Forth Circuit Court of Appeals. He has been a trial lawyer throughout his career.

Since 1999, Mr. Hoen has resided in Hampton and continued to practice as a trial attorney. He has been married since 1986 and has three children. He is actively involved in his church and the community, serving as a lector at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church and as an adult volunteer for Boy Scout Troop 84. He is a former member of the school board at St. Mary Star of the Sea School, where his children attended elementary school.

Mr. Hoen was licensed by the Virginia State Bar to practice in the courts of the Commonwealth in 1989 and was admitted to practice in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia in 1993. He is a member of the American Association for Justice, the Virginia Worker’s Compensation American Inn of Court, the American Society of Legal Advocates, the Virginia Trial Lawyers Association, the Virginia Beach Bar Association, the Norfolk and Portsmouth Bar Association, the Hampton Bar Association, and the Newport News Bar Association.
