E-Cigarette Related Deaths & Vape Injuries

E-Cigarette Related Deaths & Vape Injuries

Just as cigarettes were popular in the late 60’s, today, e-cigarette use, commonly known as vaping, has exploded in popularity. The source behind the widespread use of vaping is not exact and although vaping is meant for users over the age of 18, one thing stands clear – vaping is the most popular tobacco product among adolescents and young children.

Within the last few years, vaping has drastically gained traction among users under the age of 25, which has caused the occasional products liability case resulting from a defective vaping pen or exploding lithium battery. New reports, however, indicate that vaping causes harm to a wider range of users through health-related hazards. Here, we will discuss these new findings and how you can protect yourself and your family in the event of harm caused by vaping.

Outbreak of Injury Associated with Vaping

E-cigarette use is relatively new and it is no surprise that little is known about the effects of using an e-cigarette. Vaping, however, has been headlining as a result of the recent deaths associated with its use. Earlier this month, CNN reported that the seventh person has died as a result of e-cigarette use, having the first vaping-related death reported as early as August of this year.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has stated that there are at least 530 cases of lung-related injuries associated with vaping in the United States. Although the specific cause behind the lung injuries is not known, the CDC’s investigation has concluded that all cases are related to the use of a vaping product.

“Nicotine” Has Found New Methods of Attracting Young Consumers

Within the last decade, campaigns aimed to eliminate adolescent smoking were prevalent. Truth, a non-profit organization routinely broadcast the harmful effects nicotine has on a young, developing person. With that, the not-for-profit organization boldly claims that cigarette use is increasingly declining with just 5% of teens reportedly smoking cigarettes. With such a low figure, it comes as a surprise to learn of the recent deaths associated with tobacco use.

As vaping has gained traction across diverse communities, e-cigarette companies have proclaimed the ways in which e-cigarette use has leverage over traditional cigarette use. One of the most common claims is that the vapor produced by an e-cigarette is not as pungent or visible as traditional smoking. For young users, this can be particularly catching, as it is easier to camouflage the use of a vaping pen that does not produce odors.

Because of the vaping pen’s ingenuity, uninformed consumers can easily ignore the warning signs associated with conventional methods used to smoke, such as the dangers of nicotine addiction. In response to the unlawful use of vaping among underage users, vaping companies have made little to no effort to avoid this issue. Instead, many companies seem to have strategically market young consumers.

Strategic Marketing - What Can You Do To Protect Your Rights After Vaping Has Caused You Harm

With sleek, high-tech designs and an array of fruity flavors, the use of a vaping pen has gained popularity amongst consumers under the age of 25. Uninformed consumers are attracted by the appealing designs of a vaping pen and do not realize that a common vaping pod contains the amount of nicotine found in two packs of cigarettes. Although nicotine itself is not carcinogenic, it is very addictive and it is also related to harmful and irreversible bodily injuries.

When a vaping company has failed to warn against the long-term health effects associated with the regular use of its product or has otherwise unlawfully sought to market underage consumers, it is the legal right of injured parties to seek compensation. Although vaping is relatively new, products liability claims and personal injury cases are not. If you or your teen has suffered because of a negligent company, seek the legal skills of an experienced defective product law firm today.
